Wimborne Deanery is linked with Yambio and Nzara Diocese in Western Equatoria in South Sudan.
The Deanery covers several benefices, including Alderholt, Canford Magna, Colehill, Corfe Mullen, Ferndown, Hampreston, St. John's in Wimborne, Verwood, West Moors, West Parley, Knowlton Circle, Wimborne Minster and the villages.
Canon Andrew Rowlands is the current Dean and Rector of the Minster
Prayers are regularly held for our partners in Yambio and Nzara.
History of Wimborne Deanery link
- The Deanery has well-established links, made through visits to Yambio and Nzara (pastoral and teaching) since January 2013 and through hosting reciprocal visits in Wimborne.
- Funding from the Deanery has supported transport for Pastors in Yambio & Nzara.
- The Rotary club in Wimborne and Rotary International raised money for projects to repair the ECS primary school in Yambio and to help with health projects in Nzara.
- Funding for student support was provided for the Bishop Gwynne Theological College in Juba.
- The late Sheila Soper strengthened the links between Wimborne Deanery and Yambio and Nzara by her work with the Mothers' Union.
- The Deanery has many members who actively support the Salisbury/Sudan Medical Link, either through funding student training or fundraising for the regular supplies of life-saving drug consignments.
Current activities
All are welcome to join Wimborne Deanery every Friday, for homemade soup, bread and cakes, for only £5! Join at 12:00, Church House, High St, Wimborne BH21 1HT. Lunch and Chat lunches are served to raise money for the Medical Link; this raises around £2,000 per year.
